What do we do.......
We advise on fire safety
We have three Community Fire Safety Centres located at Falmouth, St Austell and Bodmin, which are normally open from 9am - 5pm from Monday to Friday.
We provide free fire safety advice by telephone 24 hours a day, from our free phone helpline: 0800 3851 999
We Educate
Our Community Fire Safety Advisors visit every school in the county over a 5 year rolling programme, to educate children of the dangers of fire. Visit the School Education pages (held within the Stay Safe section) for more information.
Our specially trained Fire Awareness Child Education (F.A.C.E.) Officers visit children who play with fire. You can find out more information about the scheme in the Youth Projects section.
We talk to the elderly about protecting themselves from fire and offer 'Free Home Fire Safety Risk Assessments' to all members of the public. To find out more information on this service, see the Fire Safety in the home section.
We hold Fire Station Open Days and other fundraising events throughout the county, to demonstrate our work and provide fire safety advice. Visit our page on Fundraising and Charities We Support for more information on where the proceeds are donated to. You can also find out about future upcoming fundraising events and how much money has been raised to date.
The Fire Cadet Schemes take place at Saltash, Bodmin, Polruan, St. Austell and Newquay Community Fire Stations, which aim to provide 13 to 18 year olds with life skills in a fire service environment. Visit the Youth Projects section to find more information on the Phoenix Project and Supporting Community Values Scheme.
We Inspect and Enforce
We inspect business premises to check safety standards under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRO) to minimise the risk of fire for people visiting and working in Cornwall. Visit the Business Fire Safety section for more information.
We inspect and Maintain Fire Hydrants to ensure that they work to their full capacity when the need arises.
We attend incidents
If you have a fire, or suspect a fire of any size, dial 999 and ask for fire.
We Attend Incidents and deal with them in an efficient and professional manner.
We use our training and equipment to keep damage to your property to a minimum.
After a fire, we will offer you advice on getting things back to normal.
We Rescue People
If a person becomes trapped, for example in a road traffic incident or a lift, dial 999 and ask for fire.
We will send skilled Firefighters with specialist equipment to help with the problem.
Firefighters receive regular first aid training and will work with the other emergency services to keep distress to a minimum.
We Deal With Other Emergencies
We are trained and equipped to deal with a range of emergencies, including flooding, aircraft crashes and train incidents.
We provide assistance to Westcountry Ambulance Service Trust by Co-Responding to medical calls in remote areas.
We Rescue Animals*
We will obtain advice from the RSPCA and if the animal is in distress we will immediately send our suitably equipped Firefighters to help.
We will deal with all rescues compassionately.
